Hit in the Eye - _TNY_0254

Butterflies complete their metamorphosis from caterpillar to adult butterfly inside their chrysalides - a process which typically takes a couple of weeks. When emerging after two weeks inside there, it's not hard to imagine there is a need to relieve oneself - which is exactly what they do pretty much right away after emerging.

At the Haga Ocean butterfly house, the chrysalides are hanging in long rows from bars inside the chrysalis cabinet.

This however means there is a certain risk if you are one of the butterflies emerging at the lower levels.

This common cruiser (Vindula erota) was one of the unfortunate ones and happened to get hit with this waste right in the eye - something I imagine can't be overly enjoyable.

I haven't photographed to many cruisers at this place, but the same day I spotted this one, I also found and shot this Malay cruiser (Vindula dejone): www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54006797755/
