The natural way to look when at a butterfly house is up - but there are also quite a lot of butterflies that think staying on the ground/floor is a good idea, so watching where you put your feet is a good idea.
This male Low's swallowtail (Papilio lowii), also known as the great yellow mormon, came walking over the path where I had my tripod, trying to shoot a different butterfly on a leaf and since he stopped right in front of the tripod, all I had to do when I was done with the other butterfly was to tilt the tripod head 90 degrees forward and focus on this guy instead.
And after getting my shot, I decided to move him to a rock where he was safe from being stepped on.
