Still a Pollinator - _TNY_9662

I hear quite often that wasps and yellowjackets are useless because they don't pollinate flowers.

 

Regardless of the fact that animals don't have to serve a purpose to be good, wasps are actually extremely useful in the garden as they keep he population of caterpillars and similar in check AND pollinate. This saxon wasp (Dolichovespula saxonica) certainy is fuzzy enough to pick up some pollen when visiting the inflorescence on a purple angelica (Angelica gigas).
