Ragged Wings - _TNY_8889

Judging by the very worn wings on this meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) in Tyresta National Park, it has lived a full life.

 

Since butterflies have so much wing area compared to their weight, they can usually fly just fine with much more wing damage than this.
