The Wide Flame - _TNY_9095

The Julia butterfly ((Dryas iulia), also known as the Julia heliconian, the flame or flambeau, is a rather smalll (by tropical butterfly standards) species.

 

With the dorsal side being almost completely orange here, we can say that this must be a male as the females have significantly more black markings.

 

As you can see on the trailing end of the wings, this one is quite worm and since there aren't any bird or other predator at the butterfly house, I believe this one is simply old - which again by tropical butterfly standards means around two weeks.
