Silver Butterfly, Pt. 2 - _TNY_0113

The painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is a migratory butterfly which spend several generations migrating from northern Africa and up through Europe.

In 2019, the winds were fortunate for us which led to there being lods of these up here in Sweden (I haven't seen one since).

This one is what you would call a senior citizen, having helped put the next generation into this world - which will undertake the beginning of the migration back south. Meanwhile, this one was living out its days at Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park.

In many languages, the name of this species reference thistles (Swedish: tistelfjäril, German: Distelfalter, Norwegian: tistelsommerfugl, Dutch: distelvlinder, Spanish: la vanesa de los cardos, Danish: tidselsommerfugl) which makes it extra fitting that this one is sitting (or is that standing?) on a thistle.
