The Destroyer of Leaves - _TNY_4832

A fourth instar caterpillar of the common yellow swallowtail (Papilio machaon) finishing up the final parts of one of the leaves on my mother-in-law's purple angelica (Angelica gigas) last summer.

She really loves the flowers in her garden, but have been taken in with these caterpillars and happily sacraficed the leaves for their food needs and even created a makeshift cover to better shield them from birds.

Hopefully, we'll see the adults this summer.
