Anti-Decomposer - _TNY_7252
I recently spent about an hour in the small Älvsjöskogens naturreservat together with my wife which was nice. It's quite secluded and situated lower than the surroundings so pretty much all of the noises of the city disappeared when in there.
Animal life was fairly limited though at this point in the season but one I managed to find was this red-breasted carrion beetle (Oiceoptoma thoracicum).
Now the name carrion beetle implies that it eats carrion, but it is actually a bit of the opposite.
They locate the carrion and lay their eggs under it, but both the adult beetles and thier larvae prefer to eat fly maggots in the carrion to the actuall carrion, which I suppose makes their presence actually detrimental to the breakdown of dead animals.
