This owl butterfly looked significantly darker than the typical ones at the Haga Ocean butterfly house which are Caligo memnon and C. eurilochus . But it isn't as saturated as C. atreus either.
Since there are 21 Caligo species and there is overlap in the colouration (plus this one didn't display the dorsal side at all), but I still believe this to be a dusky owl butterfly (Caligo illioneus), also known as the Illioneus giant owl.
