Greenclock, Pt. 4 - _TNY_5673

On the way to the henhouse across the lawn at my mother-in-law's place, there is a row of concrete pavers. Gradually, the lawn tends to swallow these up, so during our summer vacation this year, my wife decided to dig them up, trim the grass and put them back with some fresh sand underneath.

This project turned out very nice - but not as nice (to me at least) as this greenclock beetle (Poecilus sp.) which was trying to hide between the grass and the paver. Like all ground beetles, these guys are runners so it took some coaxing and lots of attempts to get it to stay still long enough for some portraits, but we got there in the end.

There are six Poecilus species in Sweden and at least half of those can look like this so the ID will have to stop at Poecilus sp.

Pretty nice metallic sheen, right?
