Home Turf, Pt. 2 - _TNY_4933

Here is a female European wool carder bee (Anthidium manicatum) sitting on the fleshy "leaves" of a house leek (Sempervivum tectorum).

This flower grows low and close to the ground, but the flowers grow like surprisingly tall towers out of it and since they have quite a lot of hair on the flowers, these bees like to collect said hairs and use it to line their egg chambers.

Here is a shot showing the flowers better: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/11122536893/

and here is a short video clip of them: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51870771140/

This is probably my favourite bug of all and I have an entire album (70+ photos) with just shots of them here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/albums/72157667862870066/
