Convenient Beginning, Pt. 2 - _TNY_7798
The first find on a June 2022 trip to Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park together with my son was a female goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia) in yellow mode.
She had performed a successful ambush from a dandelion (Taraxacum sect. ruderalia) and managed to snag a male migrant hoverfly (Eupeodes corollae).
Conviniently for me, the dandelion was right next to the low wooden railing next to the little bridge over the Åva creek which meant I could use the rail for support while shooting.
Now goldenrod crab spider venom seems pretty potent, but I imagine that when striking straight into the eyes like this, death would be especially fast for the poor hoverfly.

My phone has a dedicated 5MP macro lens so I decided to try it out here as well which made for a nice comparison shot. I am actually very pleased with the shot that the phone produced, though it of course can't compete with a dedicated macro rig. Phone shot here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52163209493/
