On the Sauce - _TNY_2182

The owl butterflies, like this yellow-edged banded owl butterfly (Caligo atreus) are probably the ones who like the ripe fruits that the staff hang upp the most at my butterfly house.

But as the fruit hangs there in around 27°C (81°F), it ripens to the point that it begins to spontaneously ferment so sometimes the alcohol level can rise so much that it affects the butterflies.

I've seen mentions of males suddenly being more interested in courting other species than their own females and the obviously can become more sluggish as well and just stay on the, in this case, banana for ages.

The banana fan here, the Caligo atreus, is a fair bit rarer for them to have than the "regular" Caligo memnon. It is significantly more saturated in its colouration though and the dorsal side of the wings have a intense yellow and blue stripe per wing which are very eyecatching.

As a bonus, the texture on the wings look really cool if you zoom in here.
