Furthering my case that thistles are the best bug photo flower, here is a quartet of bugs on one.
The smaller orange butterfly on the left is an Essex skipper (Thymelicus lineola), known as the European skipper in North America, and the yellow one to the right of the skipper is a male brimstone butterfly (Gonepteryx rhamni).
Moving down below the purple part we find a mirid bug known as Plagiognathus arbustorum and just below that one is a nymph of the spear thistle lacebug (Tingis cardui).
