Rare Visitor, Pt. 3 - _TNY_2734
The poplar admiral (Limenitis populi) is one of the largest butterflies in Sweden - and in fact all of Europe. Females are a little larger and can have a wingspan nearing 100 mm!
Since it is both an excellent flier (ie doesn't spend much time on the ground) and also fly for only a short period of the summer, getting close isn't a regular thing.
Back in early July of 2021 I had the good fortune to have one come down on the parking lot and pose for a couple of photos and it really is a beauty!

The summer after this, I managed a really good shot showing the dorsal side of the wings which can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52199707887/
