Iridescent Jewel, Pt. 4 - _TNY_4743

While I was indoors, processing a photo on the computer, my wife messaged me a photo of a beetle she had just found in the garden.

After looking at it, I came flying out of the house with the camera and was met by this rather large (~20 mm) female jewel beetle called Buprestis rustica walking around on a log, laying her eggs in cracks in it.

The jewel beetles I'm used to are way smaller so this was a real treat and I got several shots I'm really happy with and also a short video of her depositing the eggs in the log.

This shot is taken with my hand behind her which seemed to trick her into thinking she was in cover.
