Have Jaws, Will Pinch - _TNY_3957

The larvae of lacewings (Chrysopidae sp.) are eating machines. They consume aphids at a pace which make ladybirds look like seriously picky eaters. In fact, this has led to the larvae getting a Swedish informal name - "bladluslejon" which translates into aphid lion".

One thing people who pick these up tend to notice though is how their fingers resemble aphids though - there can't be another reason for why these so often decide to pinch the unfortunate finger. It isn't dangerous or particularily painful, but from what I hear, the pinch is quite itchy for a while after.

The one here (not able to identify the species) clearly has walked across the yellow part of the ox-eye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) given how full of yellow pollen it was.
