The beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo), like this female, is primarily found by clean, partially covered, moving waters with a bed of sand or gravel.
One such water is the short Stenbäcken creek which connects the southern end of the Lanan part of lake Stensjön to the Nedre dammen pond in Tyresta National Park, south of Stockholm, Sweden.
The water is clean enough that I have found European crayfish in it and it's my most reliable spot for finding demoiselles.
This little lady with her beautiful coppery livery was perched on a branch hanging out over the creek for a little while and allowed me several shots on a day in early August. As contrast, this is what the male looks like: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53027469120/
