In early 2023, I purchased a (used) Sigma AF 180 mm f/ 3.5 APO Macro EX DG HSM (the name just rolls off the tounge, doesn't it?) lens wit the intent to get better reach when shooting butterflies at the butterfly house. This plan worked *extremely* well, but I figured it would be useful for catching skittish smaller insects like the lovely green tiger beetles (Cicindela campestris).
This is from my first attempt in mid-April, but I quickly realised that while the working distance was awesome, the 1:1 maximum magnification of the lens really wan't enough to get the good shots I was looking for.
I eventually solved this by adding a Sigma EX 2x teleconverter to the rig which allowed for twice the magnification at the same working distance.
This however, is from that initial try so the level of detail could be greater - though I am still happy with the shot.
