In most photos of beautiful demoiselles (Calopteryx virgo), both blue males like this and the more green females, the eyes look black. But if you get close enough, you can see that the eyes actually have both colour and detail.
I shot this male from Åva-Stensjödal (as well as this female on a different visit: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53179519452/) using the Canon MP-E65mm lens - which automatically makes for a close shot as it can't focus at *less* than 1:1 magnification.
