Non-Poisonous Poison-arrow Frog - _TNY_6420
On my latest visit to the Haga Ocean butterfly house, there were unusually few butterflies around.
I did however see several of thes super-cute frogs which roam around freely in the under-growth, eating some of the ants which are an annoyance to the butterflies. This time I actually saw one of them lunge and nick an ant - no shot of it though.
The species is called phantasmal poison frog or phantasmal poison-arrow frog (Epipedobates tricolor) and in its native Ecquador, it is poisonous. The toxicity comes from the poisonous animals they eat in the jungle, but since the one here eat ants instead, they aren't poisonous.
