Count the Eyes - _TNY_0170

Check out the eyes on this female pellucid fly (Volucella pellucens) on a tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) at Åva-Stensjödal in the Tyresta National Park.

The common idea of fly eyes is that every facet is a separate eye so whenever Hollywood or a comicand so on is showing what the world looks like from the fly's point of view, they are depicted as a myriad of images.

As I understand it, it instead is more like each facet is a pixel and together they make up the picture the fly sees. Having many facets like this means greater resolution while an eye like on this leaf beetle has significantly lower resolution: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53173268215/
