Unusually Still - _TNY_2348S3
Tiger beetles, like this green tiger beetle (Cicindela campestris) from Tyresta by in Tyresta National Park, Sweden, are all about speed. There is no ambushing or stealth, they just run faster than their prey and grab it with those impressive mandibles.
Being fast runners - and also always ready to open up the elytra, unfold the wings and fly away, makes them a bit of a challenge to photograph.
This particular one took it a little slower though, so slow that I was able to take three photos of it and focus-stack into a single shot like this.
Another shot of a green tiger from the same day here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53168883551/
