Dressed for the North - _TNY_3952

Climates obviously differ in different places, but it is still kind of funny that when this species, the cloud-bordered brindle (Apamea crenata) is found around the Mediterranean, it is only found up in the mountains and in typically cool places.

Up here in Sweden however, the Swedish name indicates something different. It is called "sommarängsfly", meaning "summer meadow moth".

This species has a quite frequent darker colour-variation (ab. combusta) which perhaps is the reason for the German name: "Große Veränderliche Grasbüscheleule" meaing something along the lines of "large variable grass bush moth".

This angle shows the scales of this magnificient fur coat well, but if you rather want to see its cute face, have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53109484874/
