Narrow Band, Pt. 2 - _TNY_1779

The Haga Ocean butterfly house in Solna, on the north side of Stockholm, Sweden, typically have two species of blue morpho butterflies. This one, which is the banded blue morpho (Morpho achilles), also known as the blue-banded morpho, and then the Peleides blue morpho (Morpho peleides).

The latter has a blue dorsal side with a black edge while the one here has two wide blue bands across the wings on a black base.

The ventral side is quite similar though, the white band along the top of the upper wing, the one on the Peleides species is noticeably wider. It doesn't show very well in this closer shot, but in part 1 here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52837000649/ it is more visible.

Here's a shot of a Peleides one shot the same day: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52705587122/

I'm really, *really* pleased with the texture on this one and how much I managed to get in focus. There is something special about the way the scales look on the wings of large butterflies.
