Yearly Visit - _TNY_4318

Almost to the day a year ago I managed to get a great closeup of a just hatched and pristine poplar admiral (Limenitis populi).

It is one of Sweden's three largest butterflies (as well as in all of Europe) and a very strong flyer so you typically don't get that close. Well, yesterday, me and my son visited the Mjällådalen nature reserve, situated about 30 km (20 miles) from where my wife grew up.

The weather was a bit too cold and at first, it appeared we wouldn't find much worth shooting, but eventually we stopped for a coffee break on the river bank when a poplar admiral made an appearance.

I didn't have the same massive luck as last year as this one only landed briefly and further away from me so this is what I ended up with. The wings shimmer in blue in the sunlight and that came out wonderfully on this one.
