Just Off the Ground, Pt. 2 - _TNY_1403
When you're a butterfly and your wings are just beginning to harden, flying is difficult.
This female great yellow mormon (Papilio lowii suffusus) at the Haga Ocean butterfly house had just left the rack with chrysalides and only made a short flight, landing on the ground just in front. She did the smart thing however and got off the floor and climbed up on some tree roots to the side, significantly decreasing the risk of being trampled by visitors, forgetting to look where they step.
Soon after this, she decided she was ready and took off just fine.
