Fur Coat - _TNY_1740
Have a close look on the body of this pale giant owl butterfly (Caligo memnon). It really has the most amazing fur coat - something I don't really see the benefit of in the tropics where this one lives. But then again, evolution doesn't work around "it would be cool if..." so I'm sure there is a purpose to it. Looks very soft and nice regardless.
These guys aren't very much for sitting with their wings open like this. They prefer to keep their wings closed, instead showing the large "owl eyes" on the underside of the wings (like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52908892242/) which is what has given the species its name.
