Low's Swallowtail - _TNY_2852

The great yellow mormon (Papilio lowii) isn't a very good name as they rarely have any yellow colouration, but it is the common name. It is also known as the Asian swallowtail and as Low's swallowtail.

The latter name comes from the species being described by sir Hugh Low who was the British administrator of the Malay peninsula in 1877 and also a naturalist.

This male was shot with the Sigma 180 mm macro coupled with the 2x teleconverter (making it a 360 mm lens) which is the reason the background is so nicely out of focus here.
