Too Common! Pt. 3 - _TNY_5383
This little gem on my finger is a male ruddy darter (Sympetrum sanguineum).
I can't help but feel that if these were more scarce I would appreciate them so much more.
I mean, they are very cool and all, but on days like this one - in late August - there were loads of them out and about and not very difficult at all to get close to. In comparison, the hawker dragonflies which were out patrolling as well just simply never seem to land so I would be elated to get one of those on "film".
When I managed to get this one to land on my finger, I had the MP-E65mm on the camera - a lens that can't focus at *less* than 1:1 magnification so this is as far away from it as I could shoot - couldn't even fit the entire animal in frame.
