Butterfly wings get worn over time. This obviously changes their appearance so when they have lost as much colour as the orange parts of this meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) from the Lännaskogen nature reserve in Sweden, identification becomes a little trickier.
Still, with that single spot on the wing , there weren't that many other species it could be, but if you compare it to this, much fresher specimen, there is quite a difference: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/50002512532/
