Glow-in-the-Dark, Pt. 2 - _TNY_0991
This absolutely spectacular caterpillar is a pale tussock moth (Calliteara pudibunda) - with *super* cute feet if you zoom in on them.
I found this on a black plastic water barrel at my mom's summer house where it had attached itself, presumably to pupate and hibernate through summer like that.
For obvious reasons, I had to get a couple of shots of this species which has been pretty high on my wishlist ever since I heard about it.
The matte black plastic created a very nice, muted reflection here which makes it look like the caterpillar is glowing, right?
Part 1 (even better, but the cute feet don't show as well) here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52617390171/
Also, since it's a fairly large caterpillar and I only had the MP-E65mm lens with me that day, the shot directly from the side had to be done by taking two shots, one of the front end and one of the back and then stitch them together using a panorama software. The resulting (65+ megapixel) shot can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52421183249/
