Done Playing Dead - _TNY_8411

This very small ladybird is a female 22-spot ladybird (Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata) shot at 3.7:1 magnification at my mom's summer house in Värmdö, Sweden.

She got scared and rolled over to play dead, but I waited her out and when she decided the coast was clear and that it was a false alarm, she began squirming and soon was back on all six again.

There are about 60 different species of ladybird in Sweden and this one something as unusual as a vegetarian species. Instead of muching aphids like popcorn - these eat milldew instead.

For a shot after she had righted herself, have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51850017858/

I also have a photo of the larvae photographed not far away from this one, here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51390917350/
