Antenna Head - _TNY_9497

If you want to be good at locating ladies, antennae like the ones on this male non-biting midge (Chironomidae sp) sure look like they would come in handy.

I found this one hanging on to a leaf on a very windy day at Havtornsudd point on the Gålö peninsula in Stockholm's inner southeastern archipelago. In fact, it was so windy that I had to stabilize the leaf with my hand - that's my fingertip in the background.

(I know they are called "antennae" and not "antenna" - but I just remembered a pretty good ZZ Top song by that name and thought it fit the photo.)
