A male ruddy darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) perched on a twig on a bog in the Svartkällsskogens nature reserve in Botkyrka, south of Stockholm, Sweden.
Normally, I like to frame the subject a bit to either side in the frame, but here, the only logical approach was to go for maximum symmetry, right?
The males battle for territory and chase each other away which is a bit of a hard lilfe - as evidenced by the damaged wings onthis one. Fortunately for him, dragonflies have extraordinary control of their wings so he could compensate effectively for the injury.
