Maximum Eye Detail - _TNY_1749
When shooting butterflies at the butterfly house near me, I go with the Canon 100/2.8L Macro lens which is both sharp and has a versatile focal length. Here I decided to try something new and brought my Canon MP-E65mm.
This is a lens with higher magnification and unusable for shooting a large butterfly like this pale owl butterfly (Caligo telamonius memnon) - but for shooting details, it is as good as it gets.
Now, I am limited by not being allowed to use a flash (rules of the butterfly house), but a tripod goes a long way - this was taken *very* close to the butterfly and with a shutter speed of four seconds.
Do take the time to zoom in on the eyes of this one - I think the individual facets are worth the look.
