Butterflies don't spend a long time as adults. Some live a couple of months and some just weeks or even days. It's all part of their life cycle and just the way things are.
In a butterfly house, obviously butterflies will continously die so a sight like this isn't that rare.
This once was a clipper (Parthenos sylvia), but it has passed on and here it has become food for a colony of common red ants (Myrmica rubra), sometimes erroneously referred to as European fire ants.
