Buzz Pollination - _TNY_4203
Here's an interesting one. This is one of the earth bumblebees (Bombus lucorum coll.) which is using vibration to make the pink flowers on a house leek (Sempervivum tectorum) to release its pollen.
Bumblebees are quite strong and can vibrate their wings at specific frequencies which causes flowerrs to release their pollen.
This accoring to reserach by Harward scientist Callin Switzer who had did his PhD on buzz pollination.
Switzer recorded the buzzing of 350 bumblebees and calculated an average wing frequency of 270 Hz. This was on North American bumblebee species, but I would assume it would be somewhere similar for European species.
