Blue Bands - _TNY_1617
One of many blue-banded morphos (Morpho achilles) at the Haga Ocean butterfly house in Solna on the north side of Stockholm, Sweden.
From what I understand, the bright blue colour is a defensive thing in that when spotted flying (and being very blue), the butterfly can land and fold up the wings showing the reddish-brown underside and a pursuer, looking for that blue butterfly will more easily miss it.
The blue parts on the wings is very reflective so straight out of the camera, these were almost completely white, but thanks to shooting in RAW, I was able to dial it back quite a lot and this is way closer to what they actually look like.
