Interceptor - _TNY_3928

The bumblebee robberfly (Laphria flava) is one of the largest robberflies in Sweden and pretty distinctive-looking as well.

 

These are powerful fliers with surprisingly good spatial understanding, enabling them to intercept other flying insects mid-air which I think is amazing. Figuring out where a flying insect will be is so much more complex than just following it.

 

Tis particular one was sitting on a tree stump and allowed me two or three shots before it took off in pursuit of the next meal.
