When I (and I suspect most other as well) shoot butterflies, most of the photographs tend to be either from the side, showing the ventral side of the wings or from above, showing the dorsal side.
Sometimes you get lucky and find one who is willing to pose differently, like this curious female scarlet peacock (Anartia amathea) which I shot head-on at the Haga Ocean butterfly house in Solna on the north side of Stockholm, Sweden in mid-April.
