Shooting these alder leaf beetles (Plagiosterna aenea) is actually quite tricky.
They are so reflective that the light from the flash reflects back too much or the contrast betseen the light and dark parts become too strong.
Here I used my "free" hand (who needs both hands to hold the large camera w/ flash & diffuser anyways, right?) to change the way light hit it and it came out alright after a bit of tweaking in post.
