When dance flies like this Empis borealis are about to mate, the male brings a small prey as a nuptial gift to the female and she eats it while they mate, typically withim hanging from a two arms and her underneath him.
I accidentally scared this couple mid-coitus so this is one of them (don't know if it's the male or female) right after.
