Unusual Robber, Pt. 2 - _TNY_0694

Cyrtopogon lateralis is a species of robber fly which I have only seen once before.

This one had caught a leaf hopper or something similar which must have been very tasty because it kept coming back to the same rock with it to have lunch.

I closed in and tried to get a good shot (some successfully) and it took off, only to loop back and land on the same rock again and then we kept repeating that over and over again.

I eventually shifted lens to the Canon MP-E65mm and took a couple of more shots, but then it let go of the prey. One of those shots here:www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52352927398/
