OK for Take-Off, Pt. 2 - _TNY_9912
Another one of the black longicorn beetles (Spondylis buprestoides) which I rescued from the water barrel at my mom's summer house where they accidentally had gotten stuck, seduced by the smell of the freshly cut pine wood we just stacked up right by it. These guys lay their eggs in freshly fallen pine so it must have been irresistable to them.
It walked around on my fingers for a while before finally opeing up the elytra and unfolding its wings to fly off.

Here's a portrait shot of one of the other ones, showing the huge mandibles they've got: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52424913881/
And here's a shot my wife took of me when I concentrated so hard on taking this shot that I forgot to not stand like a dork: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52506224751/
