Red Eyes and Antennae - _TNY_9722
Unlike beetles, true bugs, like this green shield bug (Paloma prasina), or stink bug as Americans like to call therm, don't go from egg to larvae to adult.
Instead they hatch from the eggs as small nymphs, looking more like the adults. Before getting there they pass through several instar forms, shedding their exoskeleton for a slightly larger version (and typically updating the design a bit as well.
The easiest way to tell if it is an adult or a nymph is to look for wings as only the adults have those.
I believe this to be the fifth and final instar form so the next time it sheds it skin, it will become an adult.
Also, how neat aren't those red eyes? Really pleased with the way they came out here.
As an adult, this one will look akin to this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51908998607/
