Core Strength Love-Making - _TNY_0031

Here are a pair of Peleides blue morphos (Morpho peleides) in the middle of mating.

Look a little closer though and you'll see that it is only the upper one (I'm unsure if it's the male or the female) that has its feet on the leaf.

The lower one is not holding on to anything besides the coupling with its mate - how's that for core strength?

The more typical position to be in for these ones doing this can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51986591351/ and here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52217299902/

If you look at the wings of the lower one, you can see a small damage at the back of the wing and through the hole, some of the metallic blue of the dorsal side of the wings are showing a little.
