Being this dark, this male walnut orb-weaver (Nuctenea umbratica) wasn't exactly difficult to spot on the white side of the house next to the front door when I got home from work at 01:09 at night.
He stayed nice and still while I went inside to get the camera and also while I worked to nail focus properly as it became quite dark with the diffuser blocking most light, but it came out like this after just three attempts.
