Guy or Girl? - _TNY_6317

For some type of moths, it is easy to sex them as the male have comblike antennae while the female have straight ones - as it's mainly the guys' job to find the ladies.

With others, like this atlas moth (Attacus atlas) sitting on a row of coocoons (including the one it crawled out of), it is a little trickier as both male and female have combed antennae. The males' antennae are still larger so for one with them as large as this, we can conclude that we are looking at a male.

Also, this is a fairly good shot to see the way this moth mimicks snake heads on the outer wingtips as a way to ward off birds and predators when it is sleeping during the day.
