Early (Lady-)Bird - _TNY_6087

When I was a kid back in the 80s, everybody "knew" that the spots on the back of ladybirds indicated how old they were, Nobody seemed to reflect over the fact that all red ladybirds were either two or seven years old.

This one, which would have been considered a two-year-old back then is of course not that old - this species has two spots and that's that. It is unimagitively named the two-spot ladybird (Adalia bipunctata).

Interestingly, the black colourform has either four or six red spots and there are several other forms as well.

This particular one was one of those early bugs of the season when you're starving for subjects so I was really glad to shoot this one.
